This course fulfills the Analysis and Interpretation of Meaning General Education requirement.
Migration has been an essential part of human history, but contemporary migration’s nature, scale, and complexity are unique in today’s globalized world. Even today’s most intractable problems transgress the borders nations have drawn to define their territories. This course explores the pressure of transnational emergencies on contemporary ideas about citizenship, boundaries, and belonging. While this course is heavier on texts than films, we approach our topic from various angles—from political science and history to law, sociology, literature and film—to better understand how our contemporary world collapses some borders but fortifies others.
You may take this course for GR320/ GR220 German Studies Credit /CO200 Comparative Literature Credit or RM200 Race, Ethnicity and Migration Studies credit All course activities will take place in English and there are no prerequisites for the course.
