In 1927, the silent film era ended with the release of The Jazz Singer, the first commercial feature film with synchronized sound and dialogue. Since then, sound has been playing one of the most crucial parts in cinematic storytelling. However, its contribution to film narrative and our experience are often overlooked–many of us still consider film as a “visual medium” and the concept of sound design has been established only recently. The course introduced the fundamentals of sound design through lectures, production sound workshops, and post-production sound workshops.
