DESCRIPTION:\nThe Ying Quartet returns to Packard Hall at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday\, May 4\, for this year’s Intermezzo Season finale\, presented by the Colorado College Summer Music Festival.\n \nThe Ying Quartet combines brilliantly communicative performances with a fearlessly imaginative view of chamber music in today’s world. The quartet and its members are well known to Summer Music Festival patrons\, as the quartet has performed in prior Intermezzo series and Phillip Ying\, viola\, and David Ying\, cello\, are longtime Festival faculty members.\n \nTickets are $30 for the general public\, $25 for SMF donors\, $5 for non-CC students\, and free for all current CC faculty\, staff and students. Reserve and download tickets at <a href="http://www.coloradocollege.edu/musicfestival">www.coloradocollege.edu/musicfestival</a> or by calling the SMF office at 719-389-6552. \n \nThe May 4 performance opens with Haydn’s Quartet in D Major\, Op. 50\, No. 6\, “Frog\,” followed by Long’s Song of the Ch’in\, selections from Dun’s Eight Colors for String Quartet\, and Fung’s Pizzicato for string orchestra. The program closes with Bloch’s Piano Quintet No. 1\, with Susan Grace joining the quartet on piano.\n \nThe Ying Quartet first came to professional prominence in the early 1990s during their years as resident quartet of Jesup\, Iowa\, a farm town of 2\,000 people. Playing before audiences of six to 600 in homes\, schools\, churches\, and banks\, the Quartet had its first opportunities to enable music and creative endeavor to become an integral part of community life. The Quartet considers its time in Jesup the foundation of its present musical life and goals.\n \nThe CC Department of Music suggests\, but does not require\, that attendees wear a KN95 or similar filtration mask.
