DESCRIPTION:The 2022 election results and school board protests over Critical Race Theory demonstrate that white discomfort with acknowledging racism and addressing white responsibility for it are not merely slowing down work against racism\; such discomfort is actively harming our society more broadly. Because white discomfort plays such an important role in the maintenance of racism and in white unwillingness to work against it\, direct focus\, discussion\, and strategies for addressing white discomfort are necessary. This workshop uses lecture\, individual exercises\, and small-group discussion to explore the nature of white discomfort and its functions in maintaining racism. Participants will leave with resources to work on their own discomfort\, including grounding practices adapted from the work of trauma therapists\, with the aim of empowering everyone who benefits from white privilege to work more effectively against racism.\n\nPresented by: Dr. Amanda Udis-Kessler\, Director of Assessment and Program Review This event is not open to the general public. https://www.coloradocollege.edu/newsevents/calendar/details.html?EventID=49677&amp\;booking=1SEQUENCE:0\n\nhttps://today.coloradocollege.edu/events/4703
