DESCRIPTION:Please join linguistic anthropologists Barbra Meek (University of Michigan)\, Jacqueline Messing (University of Maryland\, College Park) and Christina Leza (Colorado College) as they discuss their co-edited book project The Everyday Language of White Racism\, Second Edition. Since its publication in 2008\, Jane H. Hill's The Everyday Language of White Racism has significantly shaped scholarly and public understandings of language's role in the production and reproduction of racism in the United States. In this lunchtime talk\, co-editors of the book's second edition discuss key concepts presented in Hill's book that have been useful in readers' critical understandings of racism and approaches to antiracist action. Meek\, Messing and Leza will further discuss important social developments in public understandings of racism since 2008 that require attention in the book's second edition.\n\nhttps://today.coloradocollege.edu/events/4875
