DESCRIPTION:Come see a talk by the Math and Computer Science Department's own Stefan Erickson! Rated PG-13 (considerable undergrad math knowledge recommended).\n\nAbstract:\n\nZeta functions have been used in number theory for centuries. Along with their close cousins L-functions\, they contain important information about the prime numbers. They can be defined on a wide range of mathematical objects\, from number fields to elliptic curves. They form the basis for many open questions including the famous Riemann Hypothesis and the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer Conjecture.\n\nIn this talk\, we'll give a friendly introduction to zeta functions and L-functions and tell you what you really need to know. We'll briefly describe their relationship between distributions of primes. We'll also describe some open conjectures related to zeta functions and L-functions. This talk will be aimed towards math majors\, but all are welcome along for the ride!\n\nhttps://today.coloradocollege.edu/events/4973
