DESCRIPTION:Topic:  Zombies\, hip hop\, and how to be an antiracist.\n\nThis talk addresses the symbolism of the zombie in narratives of racial oppression. Focusing on film and hip hop productions\, the presentation explores the use of horror and surrealism in narratives produced by artists of color to better understand racial oppression and racial consciousness. Beginning with a historical review of both racism's and the zombie's emergence during the colonial period and shifting into an analysis of the zombie's continued presence in U.S. popular culture\, the talk concludes by considering what the use of horror and surrealism by artists of color suggests about the personal and collective work that must be done to dismantle racism. This event is not open to the general public. https://www.coloradocollege.edu/newsevents/calendar/details.html?EventID=49568&amp\;booking=1SEQUENCE:0\n\nhttps://today.coloradocollege.edu/events/5109
