DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a screening and talk by Shane Omar Slattery-Quintanilla\, tenure-track candidate for a filmmaking position in Film and Media Studies. \n\n“‘In the Sky of the Cinema’: Liberating Pedagogical Filmmaking”\n3-3:45 pm Wednesday\, Nov. 2 \nCornerstone Screening Room\n \nShane Omar Slattery-Quintanilla is an Emmy-nominated filmmaker and Associate Professor of Film at Vassar College. He is writer\, producer\, and co-director of photography of The Seventh Fire (Berlin 2015)\, which follows two Ojibwe men struggling with the rise of gang and drug culture on their reservation in Northern Minnesota. He also wrote\, co-produced\, and edited The Ballad of Esequiel Hernández (PBS 2008)\, a feature documentary about the killing of an 18-year-old American high-school student by US Marines\, nominated for a 2009 Emmy Award in the category of “Outstanding Investigative Journalism.” Slattery-Quintanilla received his BA from Harvard College and his MFA from the University of Michigan. He grew up on a cattle ranch in Southern Colorado and is a member of the Nomadique Arts Collective\, a cooperative dedicated to community building and social change through the arts.\n\nhttps://today.coloradocollege.edu/events/5552
