DESCRIPTION:Come see CS tenure-track candidate Laura Biester discuss methods of turning sequences of words into numbers that represent their meanings\, which offers some surprising insights into human language itself!\n\nPizza at noon! It may be just outside Tutt Science\, or inside the lecture hall.\nFriday • 12/2/22 • 12:30 - 1:30 PM\nKresge Lecture Hall (Tutt 122)\nRated PG (some computer science experience recommended)\n\nFull abstract:\nComputers are naturally very good at some things\, such as repeatedly adding and multiplying numbers. However\, they do not have humans' innate ability to understand language. In this talk\, I will discuss methods for converting words into sequences of numbers that represent their meaning\, which allow computers to determine the similarity between words. Then\, I will discuss some ways in which word similarity scores can be used to derive insights about human language.\n\nhttps://today.coloradocollege.edu/events/5711
