DESCRIPTION:Come celebrate Michael Grace at his retirement reception\, 4 - 6 p.m. on Monday\, May 15 at the Fine Arts Center.\n\nWith over 50 years of teaching\, performing\, and scholarship\, Michael has been a pillar of CC’s academic landscape with an impact that has been felt from the classroom to the larger campus community and beyond. After earning his B.A. in music in 1963 at CC\, he continued on here for his M.A. in 1964 and joined the college’s faculty in 1967. He went on to earn his Ph.D. in music history from Yale University in 1974.\n\n\n\n\n\nAs Professor of Music\, he shared his rich love of music with generations of students and taught courses on music history\, focusing on the work of Mozart\, American music\, 20th-century music\, and interdisciplinary courses in Renaissance culture and the history of art and music. Performance has always played a key role in Grace’s life\, and in 1968 he founded the Colorado College Collegium Musicum\, an ensemble that performs classical and dance music from the Renaissance and later. Beyond the classroom and stage\, service and leadership have been hallmarks of Grace’s career at the college. He has served on numerous committees including the Executive Committee of the Humanities\, the Committee on Instruction\, the Campus Master Plan Committee\, and the Student Development Committee. He has chaired the Department of Music on numerous occasions\, and in 1992\, he took up the post of acting president of the college\, serving until 1993. \n\nIf you cannot attend but would like to send well-wishes for Michael’s memory book\, please email snurmi@coloradocollege.edu.
