DESCRIPTION:Opera Theatre of the Rockies presents "A Scenic View\," the second of three public concerts in the 25th Anniversary season of the Vocal Arts Festival. The performances feature aspiring singers from across the U.S. who participate in the Opera Theatre of the Rockies Young Artists Intensive Training Program as well as guest artists.\n\nThe program features scenes and selections from both opera and musical theater beginning with Act I\, Scene 1 from Mozart's beloved opera\, Die Zauberflute (The Magic Flute)\, performed in German with English supertitles.\n\nNext are excerpts from Glory Denied by contemporary composer\, Tom Cipullo. The work is based on a book by Tom Philpott and tells the true story of Colonel Jim Thompson\, America's longest-held prisoner of war.\n\nMozart’s famous comic opera\, Così fan tutte (Women Are Like That) and Kirke Mechem's comic opera\, The Rivals are both filled with disguise between couples\, pranks and shenanigans. Perhaps the most comedic character of the latter is Mrs. Malaprop who unintentionally substitutes inappropriate but like-sounding words that take on a ludicrous meaning when used incorrectly!\n\nThe afternoon concludes with scenes from the fun-loving Bye Bye Birdie by Charles Strouse and Lee Adams. You are sure to leave the theater with a smile on your face.\n\nTickets are $20 and may be ordered online at the link below or purchased at the door. Student tickets are $10 each. Tickets are free for current Colorado College students\, faculty\, and staff with their Gold Cards.
