DESCRIPTION:\nHow should we celebrate Rhapsody in Blue as it turns one hundred years old? Mixing jazz and classical musical elements\, it remains one of the best-known works of the twentieth century—thanks in no small part to United Airlines! However\, programming the Rhapsody in the concert hall today is a double-edged sword. As we navigate contemporary discussions on race and culture\, what lessons can Rhapsody in Blue teach us about the evolution of popular music in America? It turns out\, quite a bit. \n\nJoin music department chair\, Professor <a href="https://www.coloradocollege.edu/basics/contact/directory/people/banagale_ryan_raul.html">Ryan Bañagale\,</a> for this history making presentation!\n\nFor more information about the lecture or about parking at CC for music events\, contact the Music Office at (719) 389-6545 or &gt\;<a href="mailto:music@coloradocollege.edu">music@coloradocollege.edu</a>.
