DESCRIPTION:The Department of Anthropology invites the campus community to join for a screening of Origin. Written and directed by Academy Award nominee Ava DuVernay\, Origin (2023) chronicles the tragedies and triumphs of Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Isabel Wilkerson as she investigates the roots of racism and human discriminatory violence. Inspired by Wilkerson's New York Times best-seller Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents\, the film features the work of Elizabeth and Allison Davis\, early Black anthropologists who led the first ethnographic field study of anti-Black racism in the Deep South that resulted in their book Deep South: A Social Anthropological Study of Caste and Class.\n\nhttps://today.coloradocollege.edu/events/8103
