DESCRIPTION:R(Evolutionary) Reflections: A Chamber Recital Series Concert! \n\nThe USAF Academy Band's professional world-class musicians are excited to share a musical tour de force program as a part their year-long “Freedom 250” celebration. The late 19th century brought about an emergence of wind band music that reflects the development of society following the Democratic Revolutions in America and France that inspired and influenced future democratic reforms across the Western world. In Thuille’s Sextet for Pianoand Winds\, Gounod’s Petite Symphonie\, and Dvorak’s Serenade in D minor\, one can hear the evolution of wind ensembles that ultimately brought Harmoniemusik (music written for the aristocracy) out of European palaces and transformed wind bands into an active symbol of public culture\, civic identity\, and shared musical participation available to all people. Danielle Fisher’s transcription of Caroline Shaw’s\, and the Swallow\, connects the progression of late Romantic wind ensembles to our contemporary world. Originally written for choir\, and the Swallow derives its text from Psalm 84 that evokes images of creating a safe home and accepting renewal in the perseverance over hardship and strife. \n\n\n\n\n\nGeneral Parking Information:Street parking around Packard Hall is open after 5 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends.
